Blue Whiting Protein Hydrolysates Exhibit Antioxidant and Immunomodulatory Activities in Stimulated Murine RAW264.7 Cells

This study investigated the antioxidant and immunomodulatory potential of six blue whiting soluble protein hydrolysates (BWSPHs, BW-SPH-A to -F) their simulated gastrointestinal digests (SGID, BW-SPH-A-GI -F-GI) in murine RAW264.7 macrophages. Hydrolysate BW-SPH-A, both pre- post-SGID, increased endogenous glutathione (GSH) tert-butylhydroperoxide (tBOOH)-treated cells reduced reactive oxygen species (ROS) H2O2-challenged compared with treated controls absence BWSPHs (p < 0.05). also exhibited higher ferric reducing power (FRAP) radical absorbance capacity (ORAC) activities than other tested All SGID BWSPH samples induced immunostimulating effects lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-activated macrophages through upregulation NO production. BW-SPH-F-GI IL-6 TNF-α levels LPS indicating liberation peptide/amino acids during process. Therefore, BW-SPH-F may have use against oxidative stress immunosuppression-related diseases, respectively.
